Cosmetic Surgery Addiction in the U.S.: Americans Leading the Way in Cosmetic Procedures

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were over 23 million nonsurgical and surgical procedures completed across the world in 2013. The number one spot was taken by the United States with over 17 percent of all the procedures taking place here. This 17 percent equated to almost four million procedures performed.

Brazil came in the number two spot with over 2.1 million procedures. The top five in this list was rounded out by Mexico, Germany and Spain. The most popular procedures that were requested around the world included laser hair removal, Botox, blepharoplasty, liposuction and breast augmentation.
Cosmetic Procedures on the Rise
In reference to a recent release from the ISAPS, the total number of people who are having plastic surgery procedures is increasing steadily. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Americans paid more money for cosmetic procedures during 2013 than they have since back in 2008. The total amount spent by Americans on cosmetic procedures equated to over $12 billion. The increasing numbers were brought about due to a number of trends and factors that affected the beauty industry.
According to experts in the field, these numbers are not really surprising. The greater accessibility, procedures that are less-invasive and technological advances have made the aesthetic procedures, both nonsurgical and surgical ones, much more attractive to the general public. Additionally, the economy is successfully rebounding from the downfall, which is encouraging Americans to begin investing in their own person once gain.
The Increase of Males Seeking Cosmetic Procedures
During 2013, it was recorded that 12.8 percent of the total number of people who received cosmetic procedures were men. Additionally, ISAPS reported that over three million males had received plastic surgery around the world in 2013. Some of the most popular procedures that were provided included liposuction, otoplasties, blepharoplasties, breast reductions and rhinoplasties. In the United States alone, over one million cosmetic procedures were performed on males, which was about 9.4 percent of the actual total.
Cosmetic surgery offers men and women the opportunity to change parts of their body that they are not completely satisfied with. This is extremely appealing for those who want to invest in themselves, for the first time in several years. Additionally, with the introduction of procedures that are much less-invasive, anyone can have the procedure, without suffering much downtime from work or their other day to day activities.
Keep in mind, there are certain procedures that are more popular than others; however, the ones listed here are the most popular that are performed in the United States, as well as around the world.
